Fairy Tales – Gingerbread Man

What happens when an overconfident person thinks he can fool everyone, always? Read this tragic story below!

Once upon a time, there was an old lady baker who worked alone in a bakery. One day, she decided to make a man out of gingerbread so that she would have some company. And so, she kneaded a man out of gingerbread and even gave him eyes, nose and a mouth. She sprinkled some sugar on his body to make him look beautiful and then she kept him in the oven to cook. Once the cooking was done and she opened the oven, the gingerbread man sprang to life and ran towards the window. He proclaimed himself to be the gingerbread man and saying that no one could catch him, he jumped out of the window and ran away. The old lady chased after him.

As the gingerbread man ran, he came across a cow and the cow felt at once that she should eat him as he looked very tasty. He then again proclaimed himself to be the gingerbread man and saying that no one could catch him, ran away with the old lady and the cow chasing after him.

As the gingerbread man ran further , he came across a horse and the horse felt at once that he should eat him as he looked very tasty. He then again proclaimed himself to be the gingerbread man and saying that no one could catch him, ran away with the old lady, the cow and the horse chasing after him.

As the gingerbread man ran further , he came across a fox, but the fox was silent. He then again proclaimed himself to be the gingerbread man and saying that no one could catch him, ran away. The fox then wondered as to why he was running and why he should be bothered if he ran away. But then it struck him that he was made of gingerbread and that he would make a good meal and so he chased the gingerbread man along with the others.

Soon, the gingerbread man came upon a river and was unable to cross it. The old lady, the cow and the horse had given up and could not make it till here. The fox however,  was watching at a safe distance and he saw this as the perfect opportunity to make a meal of him. The fox went to him and offered to carry him across the river on his back. The gingerbread man agreed as there was no other choice in front of him. And so, the fox took him on his back and got into the river. As they were crossing the river, the fox told him it would be better if he sat on his head and the gingerbread man agreed.

Halfway down the river, the fox said it would be better if he sat on his long mouth. The gingerbread man agreed and sat on the fox’s long mouth. The fox, without wasting a moment, tossed him into the air and he fell into his mouth. The fox then chewed and gobbled him up. And so, the gingerbread man’s dream run came to a tragic end.
