Gajasura became very proud of himself. He felt as though he was the supreme power of this world.

Gajasura then began a reign of terror and wreaked destruction wherever he went. He started killing everyone who came his way.

The devas could bear it no longer. They were afraid of being ruled by Gajasura. They prayed to Lord Brahma to save them from the hands of this evil asura.

Lord Brahma: Devas! Gajasura has obtained a boon from lord shiva that only a creature resembling him can kill him., Only Lord Ganesha can save us from him.

Lord Ganesha: Don’t worry. It’s my duty to save all three worlds from the evil hands of Gajasura.

Ganesha headed straight to Gajasura to put an end to his evil acts. Gajasura was stunned when he saw Ganesha resembling him. He at once decided to kill Ganesha as he would become a threat to him. Gajasura threw a very powerful weapon to kill Ganesha.

A fierce battle between Gajasura and Ganesha followed. But Gajasura could not survive the continuous attacks by Lord Ganesha. He decided to change himself into a mouse and run away to escape.

Gajasura: My lord, please forgive me for my wrongs. I was very proud of myself and I have committed many sins. Please forgive me.

Ganesha: Gajasura, I forgive you as you are truly sorry. From this day onwards, you shall be my vahana. May you be an example to show that egoism which enters the mind can be controlled only by divine wisdom.
