Morals for kids – Aesop’s Fables – The North Wind And Sun.
Gentleness and kind persuasion win.
Narrator:
The North Wind and the Sun quarreled about which of them was the stronger.
North Wind: I am stronger than you
Sun: That is not true. Everyone knows that I am the stronger.”
NORTH WIND: That’s not true, I am mightier than you!
SUN: Not so, my friend, my warming rays are more potent than your cold blasts!
NORTH WIND: We need a test to prove ourselves! Look, there’s a traveler. Whichever one of us can force him to take off his coat wins the argument.
SUN: Agreed. I will surely be able to encourage him to remove his coat. But please, you go first. Try your best.
NARRATOR:
At once, the north wind sent a cold, howling blast against the Traveler. With the first gust of wind, the ends of the cloak whipped about the Traveler’s body. But he immediately wrapped it closely around him
TRAVELER: Oh, my god! How cold it is! I must button my coat up tight. (Whew! whew! whew!) I never felt such a wind before.
(Whew! whew! whew!)
It seems determined to tear off my coat. And the harder the Wind blew, the tighter he held it to him. The North Wind tore angrily at the cloak, but all his efforts were in vain.
NORTH WIND: I don’t believe it! It’s not working! I guess I blew it. O.K. Son, it’s your turn. Give it your best burn!
Narrator:
The Sun said nothing, but came out from under a cloud and smiled down upon the traveler. The Sun smiles with gentle rays on the shivering traveler below him.
Traveler: How good that feels!
Narrator:
The Sun shone on.
Traveler: It is getting warm( unbuttoning his coat).
Narrator:
It was now past noon.
TRAVELER: What odd weather! Now it’s so warm, I don’t even need my coat!.
NARRATOR:
Relieved, the traveler happily removes his coat.
NORTH WIND: Well Sun, I’m convinced. You have proven your strength!
Moral:
Gentleness and kind persuasion win where force and bluster fail.
