Solar System – Neptune.

Eighth Planet.

Neptune is the farthest planet from our sun. The volume of Neptune is 57 times the volume of earth. Its density is 1.64 times the density of water. Its mass is 17.14 times the mass of earth. Neptune is very similar to Uranus. It is a gas giant and it also has thin dark rings of dust and rock. Winds here can travel at incredible speeds, of up to 2000 kilometres per hour- the fastest in the solar system. Neptune has a giant storm much like the storm on Jupiter.   This storm is often called The Great Dark Spot, a storm as big as our earth. Neptune looks blue because of the methane gas in the planet’s atmosphere. Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun. Neptune has 13 moons.  Its biggest moon is called Triton. It is about ¾ the size of the earth’s moon. Triton is the coldest place in the solar system. The temperature on this moon is about minus 240 degrees Celsius. Neptune orbits at an average distance of 4504 million kilometres from the sun. It has a diameter of 49,528 kilometres. The average temperature on Neptune is minus 220 degrees Celsius. It takes Neptune only 16 earth hours for it to spin on its axis once.  It takes 165 earth years for Neptune to go around the sun one time. Neptune has 13 moons.
