The Final Showdown.
Meanwhile, in Lanka, Ravana refused to listen to the wise counsel of his younger brother Vibheeshana. Vibheeshana knew that if war broke out, it would mean the end of the demon race. But Vibheeshana’s words hurt Ravana’s ego and he abused vibheeshana for being a traitor. Hurt by this, Vibheeshana went to Rama and sought refuge under him. Sri Rama accepted Vibheeshana and promised him that upon Ravana’s death he would be the king of Lanka.
[VIBHEESHANA ASKS RAMA TO PRAY TO SEA GOD TO BUILD A BRIDGE ACROSS THE OCEAN. RAMA PRAYS FOR A WHOLE DAY BUT THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM THE SEA GOD. RAMA GETS DEJECTED, HE GETS ANGRY AND GETS READY TO ATTACK THE OCEAN THEN SUDDENLY THE SEA GOD EMERGES AND ASK RAMA TO BUILD THE BRIDGE OVER THE SEA]
The Vanaras built a bridge across the sea by placing stones, trees, and sand. The bridge was ready in five days. Cheering with excitement, the vanara army crossed the sea and reached Lanka. Ravana sent many more demons, who were very good at warfare. A fierce battle broke out between the Vanaras and demons. Each one of the vanaras fought bravely and injured or killed many demons. The demons fought equally well. Ravana felt very humiliated. Ravana now woke up the sleeping giant Kumbha Karna. He was Ravana’s brother.
He ate for six months and slept for six months.
Ravana knew that only he could save Lanka from ruin. When Kumbakarna came to know that he was woken up because of the war, he walked towards the battlefield. He was so massive. The Vanaras were terrified of his size and form. They were no match for him. After seeing the panic in the Vanarama, Rama rose to face Kumbha Karna.
A fierce battle was waged.
Rama used one of his powerful weapons and chopped Kumbhakarna’s arms and legs. Kumbhakarna died. The Vanaras felt very happy at this success.
